OraScreen
Early detection of oral cancer is vital. When detected at advanced stage, which is in the majority of cases today, 5 year survival rates are as low as 18 percent but with early detection, survival rates exceed 90 percent. The at-risk group for oral cancer is made up of those who are over 40 years of age and have a history of smoking or drinking.
To help in the detection of oral cancer we use OraScreen, a patented 5 minute mouthrinse sequence. This diagnostic system is based in three parts.
A pre-rinse cleans the mouth, blue-coloured Toluidine is then whisked around the mouth, which picks up lesions and areas of ulceration which a general all round check up may fail to detect, and a final mouth wash is used to clean the mouth again.
The OraScreen protocol demands that if a positive stain occurs then the test is repeated 10-14 days later. A positive stain at that time mandates biopsy.
